Famous slugger Sammy Sosa and indomitable pitcher Kerry Wood joined the lineup and helped create some of the most memorable moments in Cubs legend. The 1990s were not the Cubs’ time to win the World Series, but it was a historic time for the team. Then in 1986, the Cubs won the National League division with 96 wins. In 19, the Cubs briefly emerged from their slump to pull together some consecutive wins, but it was not enough to propel them to their former postseason glory. It was a dark time in Cubs history for the team and its fans. In 19, the Cubs set franchise records for the number of lost games, and for 20 seasons beginning in 1947, the Chicago team never ended above. The Cubs set some records, but not the kind teams want to add to their reputation. After that defeat, the Cubs entered the longest stretch of their drought years yet. The Cubs made their final appearance in the World Series – or so many people predicted – in 1945. Cubs player Gabby Hartnett hit a home run - soon to go down in history as the “ Homer in the Gloamin’.” Before Wrigley Field had lights for night games - the first nighttime game would not happen until 1988 - the Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates were tied 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning, and darkness was threatening to end the game. In 1938, a famous moment in Cubs’ history drove the team onto the road to the National League pennant. Ruth even called his home run at Wrigley Field during Game 3 of the series. The Yankees team included baseball greats Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. The Cubs also made it to the World Series in 1932. In 1932, the Cubs made it to the World Series again. This time, they faced off against the New York Yankees, a team that had just won 107 games that season. The Philadelphia Athletics defeated the Cubs in the World Series again in 1929. In 1918, the Boston Red Sox beat the Cubs out for the title. In 1910, the Cubs won a pennant, but the Philadelphia Athletics beat them in the World Series.Īs time went on, the Cubs suffered more World Series losses. The Chicago Cubs started as one of the most dominant teams in baseball. Following their consecutive World Series wins in 19, the team continued to collect pennants and make World Series appearances. After two years in a row of winning the World Series, the Chicago Cubs and their fans would have to wait more than 100 years to taste the same victory. Then again, in 1908, the Chicago Cubs claimed the World Series title. The team won 107 games in the season and beat out the Detroit Tigers for the glory. In 1907, the same year the Cubs took on the name that stuck, they won the World Series. In 1902, a newspaper first tossed around the Cubs name, and five years later, it became the official team name. The team is such an integral part of life in the Windy City that it’s hard to imagine it under any different name. However, the Cubs started in 1876 as the Chicago White Stockings, one of eight charter members of the newly minted National League.īefore the Cubs became the official mascot, this well-known team went by other names, including the Orphans and the Colts. The Chicago Cubs’ history timeline begins before the team even had the name we all know bhem by today. It’s no wonder fans of the Chicago Cubs bleed “Cubbie blue.” The baseball team has given its followers more than 100 years of riveting entertainment and sports history. In honor of this city’s iconic team and to remember the Cubs’ World Series win in 2016, we are looking back on the history of Chicago’s beloved North Side team. HomeKit.Blog is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Apple Inc. I also used the (homebridge-script2) plugin () to create a dummy switch to enable / disable the sync effect. The HDMI switch I bought supports the IR remote, so I can pair with the universal Broadlink remote and use the Homebridge (homebridge-broadlink-rm-tv) plugin ( broadlink-rm-tv) to add HomeKit support. I don't expect the colors to be as good as the official sync box, but personally I'm still very pleased with the result. Hyperion is also highly customizable, so you can fine tune colors, brightness, etc. But then I found out that someone (added support) () from the new Hue Entertainment API, which works perfectly for me. I would just like to mention that the official Hyperion project only supports the original Philips Hue API, which I found very late and reliable here. If you are interested, there are many online tutorials on how to use Hyperion to configure the DIY environment for your TV. Since I already have an RPi running at home, the total cost for the self-made box is under $ 50, including an HDMI switch ( ~ $ 10), an HDMI splitter ( ~ $ 10), an HDMI to AV converter ( ~ $ 10) and a USB video grabber ( ~ $ 10). For me it is a little difficult to justify the costs, so I decided to create my own sync box using (Hyperion) () on a Raspberry Pi. Only after receiving the bars did I realize that I still needed a $ 200 sync box to sync the lights to my TV. I recently bought 2 Philips Hue Play bars from Best Buy for $ 50 when they were put up for sale. Like FoneHome, GadgetTrak also describes their backend database being in a secured data center, which doesn’t tell us much about securely how they store the data itself, just that it’s unlikely someone will try to physically break in to steal the hard drives it’s stored on. The data is sent via SSL, which means that the data is sent encrypted. You can take photos with front or rear cameras, though this will be an in-app purchase. It allows you to push a message to the phone as well. It will try to locate your device via GPS, WiFi or cell tower triangulation, and will let you track multiple devices. Once again, we see a lot of the same basic finder features in GadgetTrak. 3. GadgetTrakĬost: $3.99 for iDevices, $19.95 for Windows/OS X/Android/Blackberry FoneHome’s description makes a point of saying that it encrypts all your transmitted information and it’s stored in a “secure data center” – it’s a nice sign that they’ve given data security some thought, but the details are a bit vague. It also allows you to remotely send the phone’s browser to a URL of your choosing, and it stores up to 100 location updates. You can also remotely make the device take a photo, and it has an alarm. It will try to locate your device via GPS and WiFi location, and it allows you to track multiple devices. FoneHomeįoneHome has many of the same basic finder features as Device Locator. Additionally, Device Locator allows you to track battery life and remotely lock certain apps to protect your data. You can force the device to take a photo remotely, which could be useful to get an idea of location or the face of the person who has your phone. It has an alarm, which is handy for those times when you’ve simply dropped your phone between the couch cushions. You can create and send a message to your phone to let whoever has found it know how to contact you. It will try to locate your device via GPS and cell tower triangulation, and it allows you to track multiple devices. 1. Device Locatorĭevice Locator has solid, broad coverage of theft-tracking features. Here is a breakdown of a few interesting options, varying from full featured tracking suites to quick add-ons, that could help you find a lost device. Some programs even add functionality so that their program is useful in instances outside of losing your gadget. In fact, there are quite a few which have an impressive array of additional features that will help you track a thief or help instruct a Good Samaritan who’s found your treasured device. He’s the one person I don’t feel as if we really know from this story. All play important roles in the life of Elle, though I’d be lying if I didn’t say I wish we’d see Luke’s character more. Either way, I cannot envision anyone else in this iconic role.Īdditionally important character components are played by Jennifer Coolidge, Victor Garber and Luke Wilson. Though I don’t know the history of her career, I feel like this may be the film that really gave her notoriety in Hollywood, and earned her this title. Reese is plucky and fabulous as the lead, and again proves why she’s an “American Sweetheart” at the cinema. Australian director Robert Luketic (also known for Monster-In-Law and Win a Date with Tad Hamilton) sets up the right look for this script, and the cast brings it all together. FILM REVIEW | While You Were Sleeping – A RomCom Icon that Will Make You Smile True, this might not be Oscar material, but it IS supremely entertaining, and at the end of the day, that’s what the majority of viewers look for. This film is, nearly 20 years old, and yet despite this age gap, it’s still a relevant film that I hope new generations continue to discover. She packs up her pink language and heads to the East Coast, determined to prove what she can really do. Which in turn means dropping the not-so-smart Elle.Īfter she picks herself up and wipes away her tears, Elle decides she’s going to earn attendance to Harvard, and win Warren back. He’s about to move across the country to attend law school, and this means it’s time he gets serious. Instead, Elle’s perfect dream shatters when he instead breaks up with her. Her perfect boyfriend, Warren Huntington III (Matthew Davis) is taking her out to dinner, and the expectation is she’ll return with a diamond on her ring finger. Sorority girl Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) is preparing for an important night. It’s one of those films I don’t foresee myself growing weary of anytime soon. That’s a pretty good day.Sometimes there are films that hold a nostalgic place in our cinematic hearts. The Point Break star said: “You have some morning sex, eat a great breakfast, go for a motorcycle ride, come back, swim, have more sex, eat some more, hang out for a little bit, maybe do some reading, go see a movie, have more sex, go to the bar, have a couple of drinks, see some friends, take a motorcycle ride, get home, hang out a little bit, then have more sex. He has given us many stellar pointers over the years, but his best came in describing the perfect day, which is so good, even his doubters will find it hard not to get on his side. Added to this, he’s also a connoisseur of great music, which, again, not many of his standing can claim to be.Įspousing an almost otherworldy cool, for a long time now, Reeves has set the standard of how everyone should live their life, from his views on music to helping strangers out. Whilst his acting has been dubious at points, he’s invariably backed it up with an interesting character and a commitment to making everyone feel good, no matter their status. This is clearly Matthew Perry’s problem, as Reeves has done more to make the world a better place than almost all of his Hollywood costars combined. However, the deformation required by these techniques is generally achieved by physical contact, which can result in contamination and damage, thereby limiting these approaches to a single end-point measurement for each sample. The viscoelastic behavior can be assessed from time-dependent material responses, such as creep and stress relaxation. Each of these methods operates by applying a defined deformation or force to a sample and then measuring the material response. Common material testing approaches include tension, compression, indentation, and shear-based approaches. Therefore, the capability to measure and analyze the viscoelastic properties of biomaterials is important in tissue engineering applications.Ĭompared to solid polymers or metals, mechanical testing of hydrogels can be particularly challenging due to their relatively low elastic modulus, viscoelastic nature, and biphasic structure. Both the elastic and viscous components of the extracellular matrix have been implicated as important effectors in controlling cell function. Their mechanical properties can vary widely despite the high volume-percentage of water common to all hydrogel materials. Hydrogels can be made from a wide variety of natural and synthetic polymers and can be modified to exhibit specific biochemical cues for regulating cellular phenotype. These biomaterials consist primarily of water-infused networks of hydrophilic polymer chains and are typically soft and viscoelastic. To this end, hydrogels have been used extensively in the field of tissue engineering as a synthetic extracellular matrix, providing a valuable biomaterial platform to recapitulate the structure and function of a variety of biological tissues. The mechanical properties of the cellular microenvironment are an important regulator of cellular phenotype. Overall, these studies demonstrate that RAR can be a valuable tool to noninvasively quantify the viscoelastic mechanical properties of soft hydrogel biomaterials. Importantly, RAR circumvents some limitations of conventional rheology methods and can be performed in a high-throughput manner using conventional labware. Application of RAR was verified using finite element modeling and the results were validated against rotational shear rheometry. RAR was also used to longitudinally track dynamic changes in viscoelastic properties over the course of fibrin gelation, revealing distinct phase and material property transitions. Single time point measurements of gelled samples with static mechanical properties showed that RAR provided consistent quantitative data and measured intrinsic material characteristics independent of ultrasound parameters. In this study, RAR was used to characterize fibrin, gelatin, and agarose hydrogels. The frequency spectrum of the resonant surface waves is analyzed to extract viscoelastic material properties. RAR uses a focused ultrasound pulse to generate a microscale perturbation at the sample surface and tracks the ensuing surface wave using pulse-echo ultrasound. Resonant Acoustic Rheometry (RAR) is a new, non-contact technique to characterize the mechanical properties of soft and viscoelastic biomaterials, such as hydrogels, that are used to mimic the extracellular matrix in tissue engineering. |
